You’re Not Stuck

Hi Everyone! I know it has been quite some time since I have wrote! I have been on my first clinical rotation in Physical Therapy school! So, it has been a crazy two weeks but I am super grateful for the experience!

As you all know if I’m not doing something involving school or the gym, you will most likely find me on Pinterest! So, on one of my recent Pinterest exertions I came across a quote which deeply spoke to me.

The quote read:

“You’re not stuck. You’re just committed to certain patterns of behavior because they helped you in the past. Now those behaviors have become more harmful than helpful. The reason why you can’t move forward is because you keep applying an old formula to a new level in your life. Change the formula to get a different result.”

When I first read this quote I was in awe. It put my thoughts and feeling into words which I could not describe on my own, because you know words are hard.

The past year of my life has been quite the roller coaster. It is so easy and tempting to stay within our comfort zone and stick with the patterns we have become so accustomed to.

I think this is most prevalent in relationships, at least that has been my own experience.

When it comes to relationships, especially long term ones we eventually reach a level of comfort, a safe zone so to say. Even when things begin to crumble we still find ourselves struggling to walk away. We look for every excuse to stay, find any way to try and fix the impossible.

This was me. No matter how much I kept hurting myself, I stayed with the behaviors with which I knew and had become accustomed too. Afraid to walk away, fearing the unknown I continued to hurt deeper. Beginning to think there was nothing else for me in the world I stayed on the path I knew, the only path I knew. It became more and more harmful as time continued. I constantly tried to convinced myself I was doing what was best, but in the end I was only holding myself back.

I had grown, the path which I was on was no longer suitable for me. I needed to find a new path for the new Becca.

The biggest concept I learned from my experience is, no I am not stuck. We are not trees rooted to the ground. We are bees traveling through the wind landing where we wish.

Whatever the scenario may be in your life, you are not stuck. If you find you are staying in one place because it is a place you know and a place of comfort; take a step back and look where you are and where you want to be. Now create a new path leading you towards the person you hope to be.

It is important to remember that we all grow and change throughout our lives. It is okay that we end up on a different path at one point or another. It is those other paths which teach us even more about ourselves and help us to grow and develop. There is no reason you must stay stuck where you are.

Realizing where I was at in my own life, and accepting it was time to create a new path was by no means easy. It takes enormous amounts of strength and self discipline to not fall back into your own comfort zone. I promise you though, it is possible.

You never know what else life has in store for you til you take that leap of faith, move and create a brand new path.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and opinions on this quote or any experience you may have with being stuck in old behaviors, and overcoming them creating a new path for yourself. Please feel free to comment below or shoot me a message!

Best wishes!
