Is it just me or is anyone else completely over winter?
I have never been a huge fan of the winter, or anything which even has the slightest relation to being cold. But this has become even more prominent since my return from Hawaii!
I have been struggling to beat those oh so dreaded “winter blues”.
Gloomy weather, lack of sunlight and freezing cold temperatures. Who wouldn’t begin to get down in the dumps after being stuck in those conditions?
Since being back from my adventure in paradise I have noticed the BIGGEST shift in my attitude and demeanor. I catch myself being negative about more things than not throughout the day and dragging myself through day unmotivated to accomplish anything.
I find myself curled up in a world of self-pity. Finding every excuse not to do pretty much everything, contributing more to my winter “depression”.
But, that will be no more! Life is too short to be miserable, anxiously counting down the days til the sun will appear again!
Here a few ways to help beat those winter blues:
Let in the Light
Whenever possible open those shades and let in the sun, when it is shining that is. Letting in that natural light even when the outside landscape is snow covered, can give you the biggest lift in your day! Candles also work wonders! Not only do they bring a sense of warmth, but they also make your room smell scrumptious!
Look on the Bright Side
Okay, yes it may be cold, snowy and gloomy outside but I am sure there is something positive we can find in these cold-hearted winter days. For me this is blankets! If anyone knows me well, they know the number one thing I can’t stand is to be cold. But, you know what that means? I can snuggle down in my heated blanket, which is one of the most comforting places for me! What is a positive in your winter days?
Take up a New Hobby
(or return to an old one)
Is there a hobby you’ve always thought about starting? Or something you’ve been wanting to return to? Why not use this time being stuck indoors to our advantage? Learn how to do something new. Art, play an instrument, a new language, knitting. You name it, use the time wisely and finally do that thing you’ve always wanted to do! For me, I am trying to spend more time reading books of my choosing!
If there is any take away you get from this post, make it this one! If there is one way to kick the winter blues in the butt, it’s getting active! Join a gym, go to group fitness classes, get a fitness app, start doing jumping jacks in your room! Whatever it might be, just find whatever works for you, but just getting moving! Making sure I go to the gym and exercise every day really helps me to get out of that sluggish wintery slump. I hope it does the same for you!
I hope you found some of these tips helpful in beating those wintery blues. Stop counting down those days and begin to enjoy the one right in front of you even though it might be gloomy and cold!
